NFL Week 9

known associate's week 9 thoughts from the pacific northwest:
the bills were bout to be one of my bigger plays of the year but thad lewis's gimpness is looking to make it a no play. kc's house of cards may stand yet another week. slim pickins otherwise in this heavy bye week but i do like the jets to bounce back (or at least keep it close) and the texans to keep their season alive. also expecting plenty points in dc and gb. fwiw, the fins were in this group until the jonathan martin situation scared me off of laying nuts. picks in the AM after i see the injury reports..
posted these at 9:55am but billy rubin must've overwritten...

LVH picks: 19-15-1

     Indented Servant
TEN -3 @ STL (3 nuts)
 Jeff Fisher's mustache.
BAL @ CLE +1.5 (3 nuts)
If I were Cleveland, my abandonment issues with the Ravens would make me not let them into Cleveland again, because after the game, they will just leave again. I'd cry and write in my journal and watch Up and cry some more when (SPOILER ALERT) the UP man's wife dies.  Then I'd read Old Yeller and cry some more when (SPOLIER ALERT) Old Yeller gets capped. I sure do spend a lot of time crying.
IND -2 @ HOU (3 nuts)
The Colt's defense should hold whatever offense the Texans can cobble together at bay.  Andrew Luck will show off for the Sunday Night cameras.

Week 9: (3-0, 9 nuts)
Season: (16-11, 17 nuts)

billy rubin:
CAR -9 vs ATL (3 nuts): putting your faith in cam newton and ron rivera probably isn't the wisest strategy, but atlanta is awful and i have carolina winning in a blowout. hopefully it doesn't end up staying close late, allowing rivera and newton to screw this one up.

SD +1.5 @ WAS (3 nuts): again, i'm probably crazy counting on rivers and the chargers traveling east and getting the job done, but washington's d is pretty terrible. the over is probably the safer bet here, but i really like the chargers today.

SEA -15.5 vs TB (3 nuts): this is a big number, but of all the awful teams i'm going against today tamps is the awfullest. seattle's o-line is banged up, so there's definitely a chink in the armor for tampa to attack, but i can't see tampa's offense moving the ball at all when vjax is their only real weapon. at some point, and it could be earlier than later, the tampa d will cave and this one will be a joke.

SF 13 MIN 24. -3 nuts
buffalo at BROWNS +3 (3 nuts)
BUF 24 CLE 14. Late cover by BUF, but a loss nonetheless. -3 nuts
TEXANS -1.5 at denver (2 nuts)
HOU 31 DEN 25. +2 nuts
Week: 1-2 -4 nuts
Season: 3-6 - 10 nuts

known associate:
small morning plays on the under in miami, over in new orleans, bears, bucs and titans.
back in a bit to nut up.
- chi, tb, ten all covered. the over pushed and the under lost, both in OT.

atlanta at CHARGERS -3 (3 nuts)
i'm still not buying the falcons as an elite team. the broncos handed them the ball 4 times (while they commited no turnovers of their own) yet only won by 6, at home. plus, it's rough going west after an east coast MNF game. the last time a team covered in this dynamic was 1998.
- falcons 27 chargers 3. -3 nuts.
the falcons are an elite team.

houston at BRONCOS +2 (2 nuts)
von miller and elvis dumervill provide the first big test for this texans o-line. also, peyton manning angry.
- texans 31 broncos 25. -2 nuts.
this marked the first time since peyton's rookie season that he didn't cover as a home dog. teasers covered though.. yay.

PATRIOTS +3 at baltimore (3 nuts)
speaking of angry. motivated pats team have been profitable in the brady/belichick era (21-11-1 ATS as underdog, 11-1 ATS as a dog coming off a loss). i'll take tom and bill with a week to adjust to the loss of aaron hernandez.
- patriots 30 ravens 31. +3 nuts.
replacement ref ineptitude was on full display in primetime but i'll take the result. the bet covered while torrey smith was raised up on angel's wings to lead his team to victory.

atlanta at CHARGERS -3 (3 nuts)
Falcons 27 Chargers 3 I assumed that the Falcons would falter on the road.  With the return of Ryan Mathews, I thought the the Chargers would have the final piece in the offense that would make them competent in the scoring game.  It is clear that San Diego is missing a true stud wide reciever or tight end. (-3 nuts)

pittsburg at RAIDERS +3.5 (3 nuts)
Steelers 31 the Greatness 34 ballsy pick on my part.  Too much action on Pittsburgh to not take the
Raiders.  Kudos for McFadden for coming through, God Bless to DHB.  (3 nuts)

eagles at cardinals UNDER 42 (3 nuts)
Eagles 6 Cardinals 27 the way the Cardinals defense has been performing at home, I thought that they were good enough to stop the Eagles putrid offense.  In turn, I did not trust Kolb's arm and decision making to overcome any opponent.  (3 nuts)

NFL Week 2 Picks

loving the early start for Thursday Night Football this year. more opportunities to be a degenerate.

known associate:
i got my ass handed to me in week 1 but can't stop, won't stop...

CHICAGO +5 at green bay (2 nuts)
i don't exactly love this play but, at this point, i'm not sure there are 3 plays i'll like more this week. here are my reasons (in no particular order):
- packers are overrated. apparently, the public still envisions this team as the juggernaut they were for most of the past 2 seasons but it's looking more and more like they've been exposed (past 5 games: 1 ATS win, 3 straight up losses). and it's looking like the formula is this: good pass rush + good run d out of base or nickel/dime packages + play secondary deep. niners executed this perfectly. bears have the personnel to do an adequate job. we'll see if mccarthy and rodgers finally adjust.
- greg jennings is banged up, possibly out.
- packers secondary made alex smith look like aaron rodgers and only had 3 days to fix their problems.
- without a pass rush, packers d is ordinary at best. 2012 first round draftee, and supposed pass rush specialist, nick perry hasn't shown up yet.
- pretty sure the rival bears have been prepping for this matchup all summer after getting swept by the pack last season.
fade or follow. bears team total over 23 might be a safer bet, if available.
this is jay cutler's wifey...

- da bears 10 pack 23. -2 nuts
can't stop, won't stop... losing. both o-lines played like crap but rodgers is rodgers and cutler is cutler. and the packers didn't need nick perry because clay matthews played like it was 2010. still, if the fake FG touchdown and/or brandon marshall drop in the endzone went the other way my actual bet (chi +6.5) might've covered. that's what i'm telling myself, at least. but this was a lay off game, at best. bleh.

2 more picks to follow...
shit, almost forgot.
BAL +3 at phi (2 nuts)
HOU -6.5 at jac (3 nuts)
don't feel too great about these.
- and both hit. +5 nuts.
known assoicate week 2: 2-1. +3 nuts.

billy rubin:

man, i'm glad i'm lazy and i didn't pick chicago as one of my three picks because i thought that was a no-brainer. turns out, you need to have no brain to trust jay cutler with your hard-earned greenbacks. this is a pretty tough week with a few marquee matchups that oddsmakers appear to be right on about and a bunch of garbage games where all types of ridiculousness might happen. that said, i gotta make three picks and here they are:

BAL +2.5 @ PHI (3 nuts): come on now, seriously? am i missing something here. philly has a good D, but they could barely muster enough points to beat the browns last week. i'm sure this is too good to be true, but, damn, ain't much else this week.

BAL @ PHI under 46.5 (3 nuts): umm, two good defenses and one mediocre, maybe crappy offense? i'll take that.

BAL 23 PHI 24. Hit on the Ravens and the points; loss on the under by half a point. No net nuts.

TEN +7 @ SD (2 nuts): yes, yes, banged up jake locker, titans on the road, blah, blah, blah. titans aren't awful and they're playing the chargers. this is about as good as it gets this week.

TEN 10 SD 38. Loss. Good lesson to re-learn every season: don't bet on a crappy offense to cover for you. -2 nuts

Week: 1-2 -2 nuts
Season: 2-4 -6 nuts

blue whale says:

dang Jay Cutler's breezie is a straight up mynx.  No write ups with my picks today, I am shell shocked from the losses I took from Saturday's Collits Football Wagers.  When they interviewed Matt Barkley after the loss by Stanford Cardinals, that man looked like he wanted to cry...I was and am that man.

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills -3 ( 3 nuts)
Chiefs 17 Bills 35.  a high scoring affair  in which young spiller churned out another outstanding game in Fred Jackson'S steed.  +3 nuts

Washington Redskins -3 at St Louis Rams (3 nuts)
Redskins 28 Rams 31 Greasy the Third could not pull enough tricks out of his repretoire to over come the home team. -3 nuts

New York Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers -5 (4 nuts)
Jets 10 Steelers 27 Steeltown needed this win for the home openner.  +4 nuts

Josh McDaniels is garbage so is Pete Carroll but at least he gave Marshawn the rock.  Cowboys and the Pats both came out flatter than Kate Middleton's exposed left and right breasts.  The NFC West has become the premier divivion and the Seattle secondary has next to nil competition.  When Russell Wilson took of his helmet to expose his good hair, two things ran across my mind: 1. Hindis across the globe finally can praise they have an American Football athlete to call their own and 2. Tubbs should stick to pastel suits and slip on shoes with no socks.  We have a Schism in the NFL  between Killer Cam and Greasy the Third.  The hardest runner this Sunday was Dwyer...everybody else had the cupcake matchups.

Somewhere in the outer-space are my week 1 picks.  Billy Rubin has proof that they exist.  I swear.

Arizona @ New England -13.5 (2 nuts) - This match up is based on the handsomeness of QBs.  I'm pretty sure that Tom Brady is 13.5 units better looking than Kevin Kolb.

Cleveland @ Cincinnati Under 39.5 (3 nuts) - Can the Bengals score all 39 points?

Washington -3.5 @ St. Louis (5 nuts) - RGIII will hurdle Rams players like there are foot-long turkey subs in the endzone en route to eating hella turkey and avocado and at least a 4 point victory.

NFL Week 1 Picks

Are you ready for some borderline racism???

The NFL is back and Barack Obama is a Muslim who hates farming. What more is there to say?

Here are our picks for Week 1:

billy rubin:

PHI @ CLE under 43 (2 nuts): Cleveland's football team is clearly named after Leroy Brown, because they are bad, bad, baddest team in the whole NFL perhaps. For what it's worth, which is probably nothing, this pick was almost over 47 in CAR @ TB.

NO -8 vs. WAS (3 nuts): Redskins will win the battle of face grease and having players that look like Three Stacks, but the Saints will win the battle of scoring a lot more points than your opponent.

DET -8.5 vs. STL (3 nuts): Pretty sure lions kill rams in the wilderness and even if that's not the case, it will be on the gridiron on Sunday.

known associate:
mia at HOU -12.5 (3 nuts)
- dolphins 10 texans 30. +3 nuts. ea$y.
stl at DET -8.5 (3 nuts)
- rams 23 lions 27. -3 nuts. stafford threw 2 red zone interceptions and another pick-6. that's at least a 13 point swing right there. bad beat. fisher is still a good coach though.
- sf at GB -4.5 (3 nuts)
niners 30 packers 22. -3 nuts. go niners! i'll never bet against jim harbaugh in week 1 again.

Blue Whale sayin late:

ALL MNF PICKS

NATI +6.5 at Balt
these games always play close to the vest.  And i might be crazy but Baltimore is a declining team especially in the secondary.  AJ green and rook Mohammed Sanu are going to run crazy all over that field.  I'm keeping my eye on baltimore rookies Tommy Streater from the U and Courtney Upshaw from the tide both have potential to contribute on their respective postions of the ball. ( 2 nuts)
i didnt account for the inept football security of young Dalton who fumbled the ball and over threw a pass for a pick six.  Also there was a terrible call on a boldin reception that should have been ruled an incompletion because he clearly did not have possession of the football as it touched the grass when he landed in the end zone.  Ravens looked scary good. -2 nuts
Diego at -1 The Town
i am going with the hometeam in this matchup and San Diego always starts the season on a slow and sour note. I love the Raiders Recievers, these boys have Hort (that's gangsterism for 'heart') plus its an extra added bonus that they drafted Juron Criner who was unhearalded coming out of the sun devils.  I expect DMC to have a good game and a good year.  (4 nuts) this was a garbage game that had no discipline of both teams on both sides of the ball.  I fooled my self thinking that Raiders were the better of the team.  - 4 nuts

Diego at The Town over 47.0
my fingers hurt (3 nuts) -3 nuts

but....from what i've seen on sunday: Panther's fadeable newton is exposed.  pete carroll is on some bullshit and he needs to invest in superglue for his recievers.  julio jones is the blue notes to matt ryan's Harold Melvin.  The Saints needed Vilma on D harder than a hog needs slop (nothing to take away from Greasy the Third).  Niners are the reason why Nortenos world wide are banging harder this season. and peyton Manning's multiple neck surgeries were a cover up to turn that dude into the quarterback version of Robocop, i mean he did all that without even grinning. word to Andre Ward.. more after monday night my good people.

NFL Week 9

billy rubin:

i want to lock in a couple picks early, so here we go.

saints -8 vs bucs (4 nuts): brees' performance against tampa earlier in the season was an aberration. the saints are far superior to the bucs and the bucs are especially poor on the road. saints will win by two TDs or so.
- saints 27 bucs 16. this one got a little scary at the end as the saints coasted in the second half, but they held on for the cover. + 4 nuts.

niners -3.5 @ redskins (4 nuts): the niners head east for an early game, which is a concern, but this is another case where one team clearly outclasses the other. the skins' defense is quite good, which could pose problems for the niners, but the niners' d is even gooder and the skins' offense is so ungood, that this won't be a contest. niners should win by double digits.
- niners 19 skins 11. elite defense and mediocre offense triumphed over decent defense and horrid offense - hooray! + 4 nuts.

third pick coming at some future point. leaning buffalo, cincy and arizona right now.

bengals +2.5 @ titans (2 nuts): bengals' d is pretty solid. titans' offense has been struggling lately. cincy offense can put together some points. i think cincy should win this straight up like mrs. emilio estevez.
- bengals 24 titans 17. niners and bengals in the super bowl again? maybe just the super bowl of covering machines. + 2 nuts.

- billy rubin week 9 results: 3-0 + 10 nuts. and we're back!

blue whale:

Miami Dolphins +4 at Kansas City Chiefs

miami is 13th in the league defending the run and the chiefs are 9th in the league in running offense. Don't let that run offense ranking fool you, the air attack is so terrible they have no choice but to run. The only real threat seems to Dexter McCluster. Cassel is gonna have to beat Miami with his arm and I don't trust his arm. 3 nuts

Miami 31 Kansas City 3 it was written in the scrolls of Skellus- the old Wizard from Conan Destroyer +3

Denver Broncos +7.5 at The City Of Dope

Raiders are missing two key offensive elements that made them very potent. Mcfadden and Campbell. McFadden for obvious reasons the man is big play and can flat out run making defenders miss. Campbell was key because of his mobility and his knack for prolonging the play. His legs too made defenders miss and also gave his weapons time to get open. Now with Carson Palmer, who is a statue in the pocket, he will be sack target number one. 2 nuts

Denver 38 Oakland 24 besides the St Louis Rams, i think that the Raiders have a very underrated stable of wide recievers. Moore, Heyward Bey, Ford and Murphy. They shouldn't have let go of Higgins, now Housh is the odd man in. Raiders also have a very underrated O-line. If Taiwan Jones started he should go. Its obvious that Denver has alot of talent on that team, but their performance is construed because of the mishap opportunities Oakland ill afforded in this match up. +3 nuts

NYGz +9 at New England Patriots

Hate to say it but little Manning is playing at an elite level and the pats secondary is crap. New York's defense can provide the four man rush to keep Brady out of the pocket. Maybe not stop him but slow him down. The pats defensive saving grace is that they are good at defending the run and Bradshaw is playing with a broken bone is his foot. Pats will win this one but Giants keep it close. 5 nuts..also like the over.

New York G 24 New England 20 G-MEN are definitely sound on both sides of the ball. They are taking the NFC east, i can't see it go any oher way. Even with the slew of injuries in the secondary they experienced in the preseason, it seems that the schemes are solid as long as they have adequate talent in the right places. New england should definitely go off next week. +3

Teams with value are 415 niners, Nati, GB, and Browns (fade) and Indy (fade).

Next week Bears Bills Dolphins Pats Seahawks. this is also the week Chargers cover a game

You know how many nuts I got for this game? +2 nuts.

GB -5.5 @ SD (4 nuts)

The Packers will pack the box score with statistical meat. The Chargers will feel violated. Time to call the SVU.
This game was packed with offense. Aaron Rodgers was all, "Your momma smells like when I pee after I eat asparagus because I just golden showered her because she is dumb and ugly and walks with a limp and gave birth to you through her butt-hole and you throw three interceptions." And Philip Rivers was like, " Well, you are a dootie head." (+4 nuts)

NFL Weak 7

billy rubin:

that's not a typo in the title, this week is weak! so i'm gonna lock my picks in early and not worry much about it.

redskins +2.5
@ panthers (2 nuts): cam newton's early season magic is wearing off. the skins have a solid defense. john beck can't be any worse than rex grossman. the skins should win this game straight up.
- redskins 20 panthers 33. so much for that redskins D, eh? -2 nuts

lions -3.5 vs. falcons (2 nuts): the lions lost to the niners and should come out guns a-blazin' on sunday. the falcons passing attack has not been good this year and the lions pass rush won't help the birds get on track this week. detroit's susceptible to the run, as proven by the niners last week, but the falcons' running game isn't exactly elite, although they did rush for 166 yards in week 6.
- lions 16 falcons 23. so much for that detroit D, eh? -2 nuts

ravens -8 @ jaguars (3 nuts): this line keeps going down and i don't know why. the ravens are a pretty solid defense, particularly against the run, going against a very one-dimensional offense, with the one dimension being the run. this one shouldn't be close at all.
-ravens 7 jaguars 12. so much for that ravens D, eh? -3 nuts

Seattle SeaHawks at Cleveland Browns -3 3 nuts

Hawks 3 Browns 6. Alot of people in wasted their time, money and gas on this Sunday. In Cleveland. I think the only reason why people in Cleveland buy Browns Jerseys are because the team colors are nice. How about that one true fan who traveled from Seattle to Cleveland? I really hope the Niners drop 56 points on the Browns like its a college game. ahhh push it

looking ahead already...niners, black and yellow, balt and nygzzz. Why is Stanford 9 point favorites over USC? Is the line indicating that this is the first sound defense that Stanford's offense is going against? Or is it due to the fact the USC soundly beat Notre Dame on the road? Nonetheless Stanford is gonna handle biz dot com

i don't particularly like the way the line is moving for cincinnati, so i'm going to lock my picks in now.

CIN PK @ JAX (4 nuts): cincinnati's not a great team, but they're not really a bad team either. jacksonville, on the other hand, is a bad team, even at home.
- bengals 30 jags 20. +4 nuts

TEN +3 @ PIT (2 nuts): matt hasselbeck > ben roethlisberger, or is it titans' o-line > steelers' o-line...eh, something like that. i have tennessee winning this game straight up, so i'll gladly take the three points.
- titans 17 steelers 38. -2 nuts

DET -5 vs CHI (4 nuts): unless the bears have magical MNF powers, or stafford finally breaks this week, this game should be pretty close to a laugher. although, stupid matt forte has been screwing me in fantasy all year so far (i don't have him in any leagues, but it seems i'm always playing him and he's always putting up big numbers), so maybe he'll find a way to screw me here too.

Be Cautious with Seattle because of the injury to Jackson, but Whitehurst played well in his steed. Niners, maybe after Next week against detroit for I am still skeptical. We will see how Detroit does in a divisional Matchup tomorrow.
i doubted detroit and look what happens. they covered the spread in a divisional matchup. The lions clearly is on a mission and has value. next week is a matchup in ninas.

California Golden Bears at Oregon Ducks under 66 total
I don't really pay attention to the Pac 12 division as most of my action goes towards the SEC and Big 10 conferences. The double digit spread scares me but it is not farfetched that the Ducks can easily blow the Bears out the water. Oregon relies heavily on their run game led by LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner. On the flipside Cal has a stout run denfense but their passing defense ranks 80 in the country. Ducks QB Darron Thomas should be able to throw for 250 yds while beating Cal with his legs as well. Oregon defense isn't the same as last years and can give up copious amounts of points, well enough to let Cal score 24. Oregon will take care of the rest enough to stay under the total. Plus 91% of the concensus is on the over. tre nuts.
- ducks 43 bears 15. +3 nuts. oregon run game proper
friday's lean Boise State Broncos

known associate:
cal at oregon OVER 66. 1 nut.
i'm posted with the squares today. the bears can't contain the duck "blur" offense unless they fake injuries and their offense is much improved.
- cal went scoreless in the 2nd half; turning it over on downs twice near the endzone. frustrating loss but i wouldn't necessarily call it a bad beat. bears got spanked. ducks lose too. -1 nut.

blue whale:
Boise State University Broncos at Fresno State Bulldogs over 58.5 total
Its the return of the Moore and Martin show under college primetime lights. Broncos should score high on the Bulldog as both secondary defensive players Phillip Thomas and Derron Smith are injured. Broncos top corner back Jerrell Gavins is out for the year as well. Going with the 86%. Bulldogs will not get shut out at home maybe good for 24 points. Broncos good For 41. 2 nuts
- broncos 57 bulldogs 7. +2 nuts. Doug Martin fell off my map. Lattimore, Dyer and then James...oh and that stable they got at Wisky

known associate:
boise state team total OVER 40.5. 1 nut.
i don't know much about fresno state but i am familiar with the broncos' prolific offense. i also know, the initial bcs rankings are just around the corner and wisky just leapfrogged bsu in the polls. translation: look for the broncos to win with style points on national tv.
- broncos had 37 points by halftime. +1 nut.

ohio state at NEBRASKA -10.5. 2 nuts.
last week, the cornhuskers got butt-rammed by the badgers. this week, they'll power (bottom) their way past THE sorriest ohio state team in a minute.
- buckeyes 27 huskers 34. not THE ohio state team i expected to see but they still lost. fuck them, in the butt. -2 nuts.

illinois at INDIANA +14. 2 nuts.
hoosiers fresh off a QB switch getting two touchdowns at home vs an illini team just off an emotional win, playing its first road game.
- illini 41 football hoosiers 20. almost lucked into a backdoor push. -2 nuts.

texas a&m at TEXAS TECH +9.5. 2 nuts.
take the points in this shootout. the red raiders might even win this straight up.
- aggies 45 red raiders 40. tech might've won if a&m hadn't blocked a FG attempt and returned it for a TD. +2 nuts.

east carolina at HOUSTON -11. 1 nut.
doubt ecu's D can hang with case keenum and co.
- pirates 3 cougars 56. ea$y. +1 nut.

auburn at ARKANSAS -10. 1 nut.
tyler wilson on the come up.
- tigers 14 razorbacks 38. +1 nut.

Louisville at University of North Carolina -13.5
- louis 7 UNC 14. -2 nuts. huh?!?!

Maryland at Georgia Tech over 63.6 total
- Maryland 16 GT 21 t 38. -2 nuts. what happened to the triple offense vs g techs boast that they are gonna score on every possession?

Illinois -14 at Indiana (fade this)
- illini 41 hoosiers 20. +2 nuts. funny when i said fade this pick..what a looser.
each play is 2 nuts
came through the weekend with a lukewarm winning streak thinking i was bad. Aesop's fable: punks jump up to get beat down
i'll come through with afternoon games..

2 nuts for each...
Arizona -2 at Oregon State
- wildcats 27 beavers 37. -2 nuts.

Kansas at Oklahoma State under 74.5
- jayhawks 28 cowboys 70. -2 nuts. i knew Ok State's offense was potent but good God. Weeden and his stable of playmakers never let up. Justin Blackmon is on my watchlist along with South Carolina wr Alshon Jeffery, Cal wr Keenan Allen and Oregons Da'Anthony Thomas who is Straight Outta Compton.

Florida +14.5 at LSU
- gators 11 tigers 41. -2 nuts. LSU clearly deserves to be number 1

Wild Card Weekend

This post is a little late, and I'm not sure if the other guys are going to be posting anything, but here are my (billy rubin's) picks for Wild Card Weekend:

SEA +10 vs. NO: This one's not looking so good right now, but it's early yet.

IND -2 vs. NYJ: I'm not terribly confident about this game; I think it's going to be ugly and either team could win, but I'm going with the Colts for our purposes here.

GB +2.5 @ PHI: I'm more confident about this game. I expect the Packers to win straight up, but I'll gladly take the points.
